I went backstage last night before the show and that set-up looks pretty darn close to what I saw!

The 25th Anniv. DVD has no drum or axe solo. Luk was on fire last night. He played THE BEST acoustic axe solo I've ever heard. Insane. The band was super pumped w/family & friends there...PACKED house...tons of energy.

As for drum solos...Gadd the most obvious to me...I give touring, busy guys like Simon (who's also been sick) the freedom to use old stuff that they have internalized. TOTO is not playing to musicians like CAB is w/Virgil...or at least the more sophisticated listener. TOTO plays to 30-50 somethings that have maybe 3 of their recordings on shelf...TOTO IV the obvious standard. I'd imagine about 25% had Kingdom of Desire in their collection last night at best.

They played Gift w/a Golden Gun off Turn Back. I wish they blew that off and played something off Kingdom or Hydra. And why do they not play, All Us Boys??? I don't get that one.

Whoever ran sound CHOKED the first tune's 45 seconds. Horrible! Bobby just sang through it like a pro. After that all was well.

Simon's snare CRANKED. It was perfect to me, just like off his instructional video (that blend of depth and crack...YUMMY), and his toms sounded excellent...old skool drum sound...perfectly in tune with each other. Double-kick...big set...nice to see again, and played musically. Simon has his pet licks for sure...if you love them, you're in drum blisss.

Luk sang over half the tunes...clearly Bobby takes his place today. Kimball sounded like it was 1981 again--his voice has held up nicely...well, what has he really done consistently for almost 20 years?

Great show...worth standing for four hours. Should have bought dinner and got a seat however. Tip to all concert goers...never stand next to a bar or head...or both like I did. It was grand central traffic ALL night, "Ah, excuse me...please, can I get by...sir...excuse me (Simon hits a killer fill)...please sir, can I get by..." X that by 300 for the evening!!!

So Simon's back to his old setup? Well, that's good news - he sure knows how to use those octobans!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I was at their Tambu tour in 96, they played a ton of Kingdom of Desire stuff. The lights broke down while they played Jake to the bone, but the band just kept on playing it like nothing happened.

Nice to see you CA guys had a great show with TOTO - it would might encourage TOTO in playing more US gigs.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">WOW...what does that say about the state of music & touring. A band gigs only minutes from where they grew up has a guy named Klemme in Denmark say he hopes TOTO can play more US gigs.

I highly recommend LIVE IN AMSTERDAM (25years). Superb sound and music.
There is no drum solo in the concert, but there is one in the extras of the menu. Simon is recorded with a video camera, behind the kit and there is a 3-4 min. soling (Mr. Porcaro with the camera)
The Extras are very funny (touring in the bus, booling, a lot of jokes from the players.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">At my show it was Simon, but you're probably right with Gregg doing some of the gigs.

They had a killer Backing vocalist duo on that tour too.
